This is the very first episode of Pet Health Unlocked. In it, Alex Pearson and Dr. Keith Weingart introduce themselves and share how they each found their way into this work. They also explain what they hope these conversations can offer pet owners and veterinarians.

The episode is intentionally light, but it sets the tone for everything that follows: a focus on clarity, education, and honest discussion about how supplements are made and why certain choices matter.

How Alex Found His Way to ThorneVet

Alex has been running ThorneVet for nearly five years, though the company has existed since 2002. His background began on the human side of Thorne, where he worked with supplements before moving into animal health. He speaks openly about how much he has come to love working with dogs and with veterinarians.

Around 2019, Alex and his team took over ThorneVet. Not long after, a phone call from Dr. Keith’s wife Beth about powder versions of products sparked a deeper conversation. That exchange eventually led to Dr. Keith joining the company — first as a consulting veterinarian and later as lead formulator. What began as a practical request grew into a strong working relationship and friendship.

Dr. Keith’s Path and the Turning Point

Dr. Keith knew from a young age that he wanted to be a veterinarian. He started working at a local animal hospital as a teenager and later studied at Cornell University. After graduation, he moved into emergency and critical care in San Diego, where he thrived at first.

Over time, he began to see the limits of conventional care, especially for older animals with chronic conditions. Many patients were being kept from getting worse, but deeper healing often felt out of reach. That realization became personal when his own dog, Max, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Working with a holistic veterinarian during that time shifted something fundamental for him.

He describes this period as an awakening. He began studying acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and nutrition in depth. Early in that journey, he prescribed what was then called Gastroplex (now our Gut Health Formula) and saw how well it worked. That experience drew him to study ThorneVet’s formulas more closely, long before he ever joined the company.

Finding Each Other and Building Something Together

When Alex and his team took over ThorneVet, Dr. Keith reached out about adding powder options so practitioners could offer cleaner, more flexible forms of support. The company listened. That exchange led to Dr. Keith coming on board as formulator. He often describes these years as a dream come true — a chance to take decades of clinical experience and apply it in a way that can help far more animals.

The Awakening They Hope to Share

Both Alex and Dr. Keith speak about personal experiences that changed how they think about animal health. For Dr. Keith, it was Max. For Alex, it was his dog Veto, who passed away twenty years ago but still comes to mind often.

These stories are not presented as dramatic turning points. They are simply the moments that made each of them pay closer attention and look for better ways to support animals before crisis hits. Their hope is that people don’t have to wait for something serious to happen before they start thinking more intentionally about prevention, nutrition, and whole-body support.
