“At ThorneVet, we are committed to staying on the forefront of supplement science. Our team is deeply immersed in current research across both human and veterinary medicine to continually refine our existing formulas and develop innovative new ones.
One example of this ongoing evolution is our recent update to the Canine Cognitive Support formula. Emerging research has shown that L-citrulline is more efficient and bioavailable than L-arginine for increasing nitric oxide and enhancing microcirculatory blood flow. Based on this evidence, we have substituted L-citrulline for L-arginine to better support cerebrovascular circulation and overall cognitive function.
Another exciting area of research is in longevity medicine and the metabolic pathways that influence health span. A key discovery in this field involves an amino acid derived from mushrooms called L-ergothioneine. Although the body cannot synthesize this compound, it is so essential that our cells have dedicated mitochondrial transporters for it. Low levels of ergothioneine are strongly correlated with increased oxidative stress and are seen in individuals with chronic disease, including cancer.
To support the body’s ability to manage oxidative stress and maintain optimal health, we have incorporated ergothioneine into our Longevity Complex. This addition reflects our continued commitment to translating the latest scientific discoveries into clinical formulations that truly make a difference.”
